Basil Ginger & Lime Cleansing Juice

I first came across the "phenomenon" of drinking pure celery juice, every morning, on an empty stomach, while delving deep into the pages of Medical Medium by Anthony Williams, as I was researching practices and tools for supporting my kidneys and liver just that little bit more. Medical Medium, says celery juice, "is one of the most powerful and healing juices we can drink. Just 16 ounces of fresh celery juice every morning on an empty stomach can transform your health and digestion in as little as one week."

Celery is a fantastic superfood (even though not the most obvious one) and provides incredible health benefits to your entire body.

Celery helps to;

  • Purify the bloodstream

  • Aid digestion

  • Relax the nerves

  • Reduces blood pressure

  • Clear up skin problems

  • Celery leaves are rich in Vitamin A and the stalks are high in Vitamins B1, B2, B6, and Vitamin C. It is a brilliant source of calcium, potassium, folic acid, essential amino acids, and phosphorous

  • Celery juice is an effective natural diuretic (meaning it helps to flush toxins out of the body)

  • Celery juice starves the unproductive bacteria and viruses that are behind inflammation

  • Celery juice also helps detoxify and strengthen the liver

  • Celery juice prompts the liver to increase bile production and strengthens the stomach’s hydrochloric acid production. Which means it can help to reduce bloating

  • Celery juice enhances your entire body’s immune system

  • Prevents UTI’s

  • Celery juice is a natural and safe way to detox and support your kidneys and more.

Sounds pretty phenomenal right? The below recipe is one of my favourite combinations right now.

Serves 2

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch celery

  • 2 cucumbers

  • 2-3 limes

  • 1 knob of ginger (omit if you don’t like ginger)

  • 1/2 - 1 bunch of basil, leaves only

  • Optional; add in coconut water kefir

Instructions

  1. Chop all the veggies and herbs and remove the skins from the limes. Place everything into a large bowl.

  2. Put all the ingredients through your juicer and collect the juice.

  3. When it's done add the green juice to a large glass jar with ice. Enjoy!

Optional (fermented method)

  1. You can top up the green juice with some coconut water kefir (this is a great way to get your daily dose of probiotics) then pour it over ice and drink it straight away.

  2. Or if you want to ferment this to increase the nutritional value/ preserve the nutrients within the juice for longer, leave it out on the bench in a clean glass jar (with a lid on) to ferment for a few hours. Please note; you need to add in 1/2 cup of the coconut water kefir to be able to ferment it. Then you can pour over ice and enjoy this delicious probiotic juice!
